Erie In The Fall

~
I see her vastness from the bluff
Her waters are rigid
Not like the calmness she displays during the heated summer months
Her waves pound against undaunted boulders
They endure the blunt of her punishment without protest
But is it punishment perceived?
Could it be a raging beauty
dancing with the forceful winds?
Could her swaying be a melodic response to the singing gulls
hovering above her in anticipation of their next meal?
Maybe the cold irritates her
Maybe it's the tickling from her inhabitants;
yellow perch and walleye, and rainbow smelt
Maybe it's the feeling of being alone on those brisk, autumn evenings
which cause her to make a scene for attention
So she rumbles and sways
and as the wind cuts past my ears
I could hear what sounds like distant cries
begging me to stay
She doesn't want to be alone
I blow her a subtle kiss
Hoping that the breeze doesn't rob me of my efforts
I turn and slowly walk away
Her waves pummel furiously as a way of telling me to stay
She doesn't want to be alone

To Dance

~
It would be my honor
As I escort you to the floor
Us
Alone
As we make this space our very own private island
cascading through the sands
Time stops and has no meaning
our motions...effortless
our energy expended through eye contact
I read your thoughts as you sing mine
together
We turn this moment
into
eternity

Misunderstood

{Thank You Dane}
~
This gift born through sin;
I am misunderstood in a world
Confused about my within

My pain bleeds
From cuts that have healed
So you can never see this
Hurt I feel
How I deal
How I try to hold onto
Reality just to know I'm real

I am conceptually misunderstood
From my mother's womb I came
Abandoned and left for stranded.
My innocence raped and unprotected
From shelter and hood

You cannot render judgment upon me
As I on the surface try just to breathe…

I am confined to this self that is me
I'm twisted and toiled
My past soiled
My soul torn
My spirit worn

You with vision, but cannot see
Imagine being me
Understanding of my identity
I have yet to know
Explanation of self
How could I possibly owe?
